Bon Secours Palliative Care Services
Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. Bon Secours Palliative Medicine supports patients when symptoms are overwhelming; when facing difficult decisions; and when dealing with chronic medical conditions such as cancer and emphysema. Palliative care is patient and family-centered.
Our goal is to improve quality of life for both patient and the family by anticipating, preventing and relieving suffering. We do this by providing consultations in the hospital, in our clinic, and in other settings. The Palliative Medicine Team will meet the patient and family where they are in their illness, will attend to their symptoms, and will help to clarify their care goals.
Palliative Medicine is an option for you if you are experiencing discomfort, serious illness or facing complex medical decisions. Palliative Medicine can be provided along with curative treatment. In short, Palliative Medicine is appropriate when you want to feel better, feel supported and have more control over your care.
